Brown Bird

Our thanks to Ted Hayes for writing this article that appeared in the East Bay Newspapers the first week of June, 2013:

“The past month has been unimaginably tough for Dave Lamb and his fiance MorganEve Swain, who make up Warren’s own Brown Bird, one of the biggest acts to come out of the Rhode Island music scene in years.

As touring musicians versed in living life on the road, the Water Street couple are used to getting by with very little, going all in and hoping for the best. But they never expected to find themselves in their current dilemma.” …

Summer Vacation

Ah, the first day of summer and the last day of school, and TheArtsRoom is on vacation!  We won’t be posting much for the next several weeks (though something from a guest contributor may pop up now and then!).  Stay in the know about local arts happenings by visiting our Pages (see the tabs up near the top of this page?  Dance, Music, Story, Theatre, and Visual Arts).  Our pages include links to and descriptions of local arts events – for example, on our Music Page there’s a link to the Bristol 4th of July’s Concert Series schedule.  On our Story Page you can view descriptions and links to our local libraries’ Summer Reading Program activities.  Our Visual Arts Page gives you so much, from announcements of upcoming art events, to links to our local galleries, and a roundup of summer art camps, classes and workshops.  Our Dance Page offers links to local dance studios (many are offering summer camps, classes and workshops, too!); and on our Theatre Page you can access links to all the tempting summer theatre offerings from 2nd Story Theatre, RWU Summer Playhouse, and the Bristol Theatre Company!

Keep up with us on Facebook, too, to see our picks-of-the-week over the summer, find other arts-loving friends, and join the conversation!  And last but not least, for your summer enjoyment, TheArtsRoom is on Pinterest this summer!  We’re pinning all sorts of ideas to inspire you and your family to relax and enjoy the arts this summer – come take a look!

Spring Strings

The Community String Project (CSP) presents its Student Concert on Tuesday, June 5th at 7pm in the auditorium at Mt. Hope High School on Chestnut Street in Bristol.  The concert is free and open to the public – this is a great opportunity to learn more about this wonderful local music group!

And next Saturday, June 16th at 6pm the CSP cordially invites you to attend their Gala benefit concert featuring cellist Michael Reynolds:

Reserve your tickets at Paper, Packaging & Panache on Hope Street in Bristol, or at DISH on Water Street in Warren, or visit the CSP website to download an RSVP form.  Reservations are requested by June 8th for this special concert event!
